Food Systems Course

On Monday evening, August 21, MFAI’s Policy Director, Margaret Krome, gave the second talk of the Food Systems series sponsored by Groundwork Milwaukee and Milwaukee’s Urban Ecology Center (UEC) at 1500 E Park Pl, Milwaukee, WI 53211.

Entitled Knee Bone Connected to the Thigh Bone – Food Systems Policy, Krome engaged the audience in describing parts of a food system and why they matter.  She described several examples of national policy, such as periodic Farm Bills, agency implementation of Farm Bill legislation, and annual appropriations processes.  She showed similarities in federal and state policy processes, showed ways that these issues affect equal access to healthy food, farmer profitability, and farm conservation practices, and explained ways – and reasons – to get involved in food systems policy change.”
