Knee Bone Connected to the Thigh Bone – Food Systems Series

On Monday, August 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., MFAI’s Policy Director, Margaret Krome, will be a guest speaker at Milwaukee’s Urban Ecology Center (UEC) at 1500 E Park Pl, Milwaukee, WI 53211. Entitled, “Knee bone connected to the thigh bone – Food systems policy,” Margaret’s talk is part of a Food Systems series sponsored by Groundworks Milwaukee and the UEC

Margaret has worked for three decades on state and federal sustainable agriculture policy advocacy, with over twenty of those years at Michael Fields. She has collaborated to create and sustain funding for a number of state and federal initiatives supporting environmentally sound, profitable, and socially responsible agriculture.

Margaret will offer a food systems overview, talk about the interrelationships between local and national food and agricultural policy, issues affecting equal access to healthy food, issues affecting farmers earning fair prices, and the importance of conservation policy. She will describe the upcoming national legislation called the Federal Farm Bill and discuss how it gets written and how its outcomes affect end-users in rural and urban communities.
