Organic Apple Growing Class

Michael Fields Agricultural Institute is hosting a workshop on organic apple tree management, grafting, and pruning on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 9:00 to 3:30, $40/participant. This workshop will be led by well-known organic apple grower Deirdre Birmingham; she helped establish the Midwest Organic Fruit Growing Network and has years of experience as an orchardist. The morning will focus on organic pest management. After lunch, we will go outside for a hands-on pruning lesson, followed by an indoor apple grafting workshop. Every participant will go home with at least one and probably two apple trees that they have just grafted, for planting this spring.
