MFAI’s 2016 Annual Report

Dear Friends,

Thank you for supporting the mission of Michael Fields Agricultural Institute. I am pleased to present you our Annual Report for 2016.

This past year saw many changes at MFAI, including the decision to defer the operation of our garden market program. Our efforts will concentrate on field crop research in cover crops, organic corn breeding and conventional-to-organic transition research. As always, we will continue working towards our primary goals of building farmer and consumer relationships and creating agricultural landscapes with healthy sustainable soils.

During this past year, we continued our efforts in farmer and consumer education, national and state sustainable agriculture policy issues and training farmers and community leaders interested in applying for federal and state grants. In addition, we hosted two Farm-to-Table Dinners in the Garden. These were designed to promote an open conversation directly with consumers which provided an opportunity for us to learn from each other.

As you review our latest Annual Report, we invite you to continue partnering with us in promoting a more sustainable relationship with the land. Feel free to stop by if your travels across the great state of Wisconsin bring you to our area. Although summer is a busy time of year, we always look forward to visitors, giving tours and discussing organic/sustainable agriculture issues.
