365 Days of Seed!

Seeds – Powerhouses of genetic material; each one pre-coded with the exact information to transform into a plant then to begin the cycle anew and create more seeds again.

The calendar might say that its spring but it’s too cold for our maize seeds who prefer soil temperatures to be around 50 degrees Fahrenheit before they want to even touch it. This means that for our seeds and our lab, it is still winter. I am busily analyzing these future plants to determine which ones are powerhouses of nutrition – packed with protein and methionine.

And soon we have those 50-degree soil temperatures we will begin our cycle of planting seeds again. We appreciate the collaboration with our friends at USDA-ARS to help make all of this possible. Thanks!
