August 1 Deadline to Comment on USDA Agricultural Innovation Agenda

The USDA is asking for the public’s opinions and suggestions about how best to transform agriculture to both increase production and reduce its impact on the environment.  The agency specifically sought input on four priority areas, but comments on other areas are also encouraged.
MFAI’s Policy Director was invited by three groups – the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, National Center for Appropriate Technology, and the Organic Seed Alliance – to co-facilitate a national listening session on June 30, aimed at generating such comments.  186 people attended the virtual session.  See this article by Lynn Grooms, with Agri-View, about some of the comments delivered at that session.

“When I reflect on how many ways USDA’s agricultural research investments chart a future course for resilient, just agricultural systems – or their opposite – I get excited that USDA got to hear directly from stakeholders about what agricultural innovation should look like,”said Krome.  “I hope everyone understands how important it is to speak up about the challenges and opportunities on their farms and ranches,” she added.”
