At the intersection of food, soil, climate, farming and water.

Curious about raising livestock (cows, sheep, hogs, etc) on pasture?

Or you’re already doing it? These courses are for you.

The Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy & Livestock Farmers (WSBDF) has been providing educational opportunities to beginning/intermediate farmers in the Midwest for the past 25 years. WSBDF is there to help you get started, or continue, to farm. Here is a link directly to their online offerings http://wsbdf.wisc.edu/program-offerings/  The first one listed is the NEW Pasture Management course, with a large Register Here link in Green as you scroll down a tad. The second one listed is the Pasture-based Dairy and Livestock Seminar, (A business planning course, which also has a Register Here link as well) which is the business planning course approved by FSA for borrow er training. There is an Online option ONLY this year (not the On Campus or Distance Learning options right now).

Either course you can take at your own pace (start and end it at any time). The Pasture Management course is only $250 right now in 2020 (it will go up to $300 in 2021) and the Pasture-based Dairy & Livestock Seminar is $350 because it has more content (it will go up some in 2021 as well). Sign up while they are cheaper!  Many students in Wisconsin can get scholarships from Compeer Financial (depending on where they live). Basically you register for the course, keep the registration receipt and then submit it with the application at this link to get a reimbursement:  https://www.compeer.com/Home/Investing-in-Rural-Communities/Giving-Back/Grants/Beginning-with-Compeer
