Devon Hamilton Live Forward Award Recipient

Early this November, Assistant Policy Director Devon Hamilton will be honored as one of three recipients of Sustain Dane’s Live Forward Award for his work at Michael Fields, TradeRoots Culinary Collective, and volunteer work with various groups such as the Mellowhood Foundation, REAP Food Group, and Badger Rock Middle School. The award celebrates local change-makers under 30 years old who are actively creating a more sustainable future for Dane County and beyond. As mentioned above, this work includes a group of Black chefs Devon helped found called the TradeRoots Culinary Collective. The group uses food as the vehicle to explore identity and celebrate its many intersections with other cultures and experiences. They currently are raising money through catering, pop-up events, and educational events for two of its members to embark on a culinary tour of Benin this March with world renown chef and historian, Michael Twitty.
