Love in the Fields

Julie Battaille and Tyler Delsart were previous apprentices at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute. Julie is from Brussels, Belgium and Tyler comes from Green Bay, WI. Both reached out to Michael Fields to expand their knowledge about sustainable agriculture. Never would they have imagined that they would find love in the fields.

“I was hesitant to start dating a coworker, especially one that I live with!” Tyler explains, “but, after a month or so, we couldn’t stay away from each other. I fell in love with my best friend.”
“We had the chance to accompany Christine in her first year as a Garden Manager,” Julie says. ” We experienced the amazing growth of the Education Program as we grew to love each other” Julie says, ” It was a special time in all of our lives.”
Julie and Tyler both loved the Garden Program so much that they decided to come back for another year as apprentice.
Tyler is now the Garden Manager at the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay; he is taking care of their vegetable production while finishing his degree. Julie just got  back in the United States and is hoping to find a job on one of the organic farms in the Green Bay area. They got married in August and are hoping to have their own organic vegetable farm in a near future.
“Christine’s apprentice program drew us back to the fields, but a part of us knew we were drawn back to continue our relationship. Michael Fields will always have a special place in our hearts. We grew so much as individuals, and Michael Fields set the foundation for our relationship.”
