Photo of Michael Fields Agricultural InstituteFrom a personal point of view and after farming for twenty-five years in Iowa, I am well aware of the challenges farmers face.  In many ways, extreme weather and tough economic times have forced farmers to take a more sustainable approach to producing food and fiber.  Michael Fields Agricultural Institute teaches how we can all work together to encourage a food supply which doesn’t spend more on inputs, transportation, and packaging than on the cost of the commodity being produced.  Our research, education, farming systems, and policy programs advance a wide range of potent strategies to create the food system that serves farmers, consumers, communities, and the planet.

To carry on this very important work, Michael Fields needs your support as we educate and advocate to feed people through a holistic organic approach. Please consider a gift of financial support to ensure that Michael Fields Agricultural Institute continues to teach and inspire others with innovative ideas on how to develop new farm projects which make their farms more sustainable. MFAI Director’s Blog – January 2011

Dear Friends, Family, and Acquaintances,

It’s hard to believe I began work as Executive Director a mere three months ago.  I am very grateful for the amazing people in my life and the good work I get to do. As many of you know, Michael Fields Agricultural Institute has been in the business of building community by encouraging environmentally sound, profitable, socially responsible agriculture for over twenty-five years. While farmers are inundated with advertisements why they should plant the latest GMO varieties and use the latest herbicides and insecticides, Michael Fields has been busy providing information on how to sustain their farms by spending less on inputs while at the same time protecting the health of their families and the environment.
