Meet MFAI’s New Executive Director

It is my great pleasure to introduce Michael Fields Agricultural Institute’s new Executive Director, Perry Brown. The search committee reviewed more than 20 applications from all over the country and in the end, found our ideal candidate right in our back yard. Originally from a farming family in central Illinois, Perry has lived in Delavan, Wisconsin for more than 20 years.

Perry has a deep commitment to sustainable and organic agriculture and knows Michael Fields through his work in these agricultural sectors over his career. He recently took early retirement from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection where he was in charge of market develop work in organic agriculture, specialty crops, grass-based livestock production. He is known for his innovative work helping build the organic dairy and grape growing industries in Wisconsin, among others. He is very well connected in the agriculture community in the region and has done significant international work including visiting biodynamic farms in Europe.

Having worked with Perry for several years at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, I know him as a pragmatic, approachable administrator who will be able to “hit the ground running” at Michael Fields. I am looking forward to working with the Michael Fields staff and board to welcome him when he starts in January.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank retiring Executive Director David Andrews for his excellent stewardship of Michael Fields over the last six years. On behalf of the MFAI Board of Directors, we wish him and his family the best.
