Strengthening a community of urban farmers and gardeners across Milwaukee county
In the early 1990s, a passionate group at the Institute saw the value of bridging rural-urban divides through sustainable farming, sparking several years of hosting our Urban Rural Conference. Collaborating with many Milwaukee groups, MFAI celebrated their efforts to form the Milwaukee Urban Agriculture Network (MUAN). After a quiet period, MUAN is back—reenergized, coordinated by MFAI, and ready to connect the broader community around a shared commitment to urban agriculture.
With funding support from USDA’s Wisconsin Natural Resources Conservation Service, MUAN is connecting Milwaukee-area residents with education, resources, and networks that support urban agriculture and conservation. MUAN works with established urban agriculture organizations across Milwaukee county to create a strong local network where organizations support one another and consider each other as collaborators.
