Minnesota Value-Added Grant Program-Apply by March 8, 2016

The MDA Value-Added Grant Program’s goal is to increase the sales of Minnesota agricultural products by diversifying markets, expanding access to markets and increasing food safety of value-added products. Eligible grant projects are the purchase and installation of equipment and the costs incurred to make physical improvements to a processing facility. Eligible applicants are individuals, agricultural cooperatives, businesses or local government entities.

The Value Added Grant Program can help a farmer or other business entity take the next step in their food safety or business plan. A step may be: producing a new product, entering a new market (such as schools, restaurants or out of state), upgrading an agricultural processing facility to increase production and expand markets, or initiating a business that adds value to a Minnesota agricultural product.

Grants are awarded through a competitive review process. Grant funds can reimburse up to 25% of the equipment and physical improvement costs listed in the approved budget. Reimbursement of costs is limited to those incurred after notification of the award.
