Organic Processing Institute has answers for value-added producers
August 23, 2014
Extra produce. Seconds. Harvest season is picking up, and processing provides an increasingly popular means of adding value to these as well as helping your farm’s bottom line. Yet it may also introduce a host of questions: How to find the organic ingredients needed to fill a recipe? Where to conduct the processing? Is certification required to label a product as “organic?”
To help value-added producers address these and similar questions, the Organic Processing Institute (OPI) offers one-on-one consultation and on-demand internet resources. OPI draws on a network of experienced processors in the Upper Midwest, regulatory authorities, and resource providers to tailor information to specific operations and the questions they confront. Assistance is provided to processing operations of all sizes and at no charge. OPI’s website features fact sheets, resource links, events, and a free classified ad service.
