This position’s primary responsibilities include stimulating the state’s economy, by increasing the sales of Wisconsin’s food and agriculture products, and to foster new investments in agriculture and agricultural infrastructure in Wisconsin. Duties related to developing economic programs include: analyzing legislative mandates, developing statewide systems and networks, researching and identifying the training or educational needs of Wisconsin agribusiness companies and recommending policy or operating procedure for new and existing programs. This position is responsible for farm to institution initiatives including collaborating with multiple stakeholders to increase the sales of Wisconsin foods into institution, schools and domestic markets. This positions creates and delivers training to assist Wisconsin agribusiness companies and cooperatives in expanding agricultural business markets, focused on the expansion of the institutional market for Wisconsin farmers and processors.
This position will support Wisconsin’s long standing and continuing farm to institution efforts. These efforts include farm to school, farm to early care, farm to hospital and other efforts that involve the procurement of local and regionally-produced foods into institutions and organizations. Farm to Institution programs give farmers and producers the opportunity to develop new markets and sell to local K-12 schools, hospitals, colleges, cafeterias or government agencies. Wisconsin’s farm to institution efforts are extremely collaborative in nature, with shared leadership and facilitation among state partners.
