Mark Your Calendars: Emerging Crops for Soil Health - Field Day (8/9)
Michael Fields Agricultural Institute (MFAI) programs and partners are hosting a field day highlighting emerging crops Kernza, hemp and others, and their potential for building diversity on your farm, soil and water health, as well as exciting market opportunities.
When: Wednesday, August 9 from 10am to 1:30pm
What: Tour begins at 10am at the MFAI North Farm located at W2857 County Road ES, East Troy, WI 53120
See and discuss in the field practices of:
Kernza & small cereal grains with Dr. Nicole Tautges
Hemp, millet & alternative cover crops with Dr. Esther Shekinah
Soil health and sampling best practices with Hannah Francis, OGRAIN Outreach Specialist
Tour concludes with a locally sourced & prepared lunch at the MFAI barn/Honey Creek Collective featuring some of the alternative grains and foods that bring diversity to our Midwest farms and fields.
Total distance walked is less than 1000'; 300' between each demonstration field, and mobility assistance is available if needed. Translation opportunities are available for non-English speaking farmers upon request.
